How Deep Should Change Go?

Spring Cleaning & New Paint or a New Home?

When it comes to change, we can always ask – how deep do we want to go?

Using the metaphor of a house to represent our life, habits, psyche, desires, etc. Do we just want a new coat of paint? Perhaps a deep Spring cleaning to clear out winter’s dust and dirt? Maybe we want to move to a totally new location or stay where we are and tear down the house and build again.

Change – it comes in all shapes and sizes and degrees.

Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek. – Barack Obama

Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself. – Leo Tolstoy

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. – Alan Watts

One true thing about change is – Change is Dynamic! Change happens whether we participate or not. We can sit and collect dust, like a house closed up for winter, but life and change keep on marching.

An interesting thing about many of us humans – we want change on our terms, we want to control how change happens to us. We’re more comfortable with dreams of stasis than contemplating the navigation necessary to create the life we’d love, in the immensity of life’s dynamism.

Being comfortable with life and ourselves as a series of moving parts and events, and learning to love the ever changing face of change is worth welcoming.

Flexibility, resiliency and humor are great assets for thriving with change.
