What Goes Around Comes Around

Millennials. Tech savvy. Optimistic. Fast moving. Capable. And here to stay.

Years ago, when corporate America hired employees and rewarded them, they in turn, stayed until retirement. There were benefits for sticking around. Retirement benefits. Needless to say, retirement benefits are not what they used to be.

Consequently, it should come as no surprise that Millennials aren’t loyal.

Executives are scratching their heads, trying to figure out how to attract and keep the young talent they need.

Millennials were kids when corporate America changed the work rules, mid-game. Outsourcing and countless other means to reduce costs affected more than the employees. Millennials experienced the lack of corporate loyalty too, when it set back their parents.. It’s no wonder Millennials aren’t showing up as tremendously loyal. Why would they be?

Trouble is, Millennials are needed more than any previous rookie generation. The old-schoolers can’t survive without their tech knowledge, and everyone knows it.

So how can the old school catch and keep the employees they want? In one word — flexibility. Rigid structures crumble under pressure. And the pressure’s on.

Listen and learn. And same for you, Millennials. Listen and learn.

The key is in building relationships. Learn from one another. This is not about right or wrong, good, bad, old, or young. This is simply about getting along. We have an amazing opportunity for two-way mentoring. The possibilities are tremendous. We’re at a fork in the road. The old road is crumbling. The new one isn’t yet secure. Focus on what’s wanted and needed to create desired results, and hang on for the ride! It’s fast like never before. Understand, this dynamic is history in the making. Let’s work together to make it a good read, with a happy ending.
